Short Film: “Plasticus canistraria”

The following film was a collaboration between myself and Cody Norman. Norman is a designed-objects artist based in Chicago, Illinois—he specializes in 3D printing with filament made from recycled material. The following film was made to showcase Norman’s practice and artistic process.

Concept Art

Creating concept art was a big part in setting the tone for the film.

Norman requested that the final film incorporate fluid, dynamic movement as well as more grotesque imagery. Norman’s feedback resulted in the following piece

Visual Development

As far as settings were concerned, I made an effort to reference scenery from the West Side of Chicago, the place where Cody Norman is based and does the majority of his practice. I also referenced Norman’s physical studio.

I was also responsible for visually developing the bottles that Norman shreds and melts to create usable filament.

Final Renders

The film features one of Norman’s largest sculpture: “Plasticus canistraria.”

I was resonsible for creating a 2D render of the three-diensional piece.
